New Treatment May Offer Hope to Mesothelioma Victims

A new, non-invasive cancer treatment has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). NovoTTF-100L is the first treatment in more than 15 years to be approved by the FDA for malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM).
MPM is an aggressive form of cancer which cannot be surgically removed and has spread either outside the organ where it began (typically the lungs) or to other areas of the body.
NovoTTF-100L works by delivering Tumor Treating Fields – electric fields tuned to specific frequencies that disrupt cell division – to the area of the body where the cancerous tumor is located.

MPM Strongly Linked to Asbestos Exposure

Obviously, the FDA approval is good news for victims of MPM, a devastating cancer that has been strongly linked to asbestos exposure. Approximately 3,000 people are diagnosed with MPM in the United States annually, with only 10-20 percent of them candidates for surgery to remove the tumor.
Following asbestos exposure, it typically takes more than 20 years before the symptoms of MPM develop. Given the lag time and recent discoveries that talcum powder products produced by Johnson & Johnson, such as Baby Powder and Shower to Shower, contain asbestos, the number of cases of MPM is expected to increase rapidly in the coming decade.
Symptoms of MPM include:

Breathlessness;
Cough;
Chest pain;
Fatigue
Fevers; and
Weight loss.

What Steps Should You Take

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms and have a history of exposure to asbestos or have regularly used products like talcum powder that potentially contain asbestos particles, it is essential for you to contact your doctor or healthcare professional immediately. Your chances of survival depend on early diagnosis and the extent of the tumor when it is diagnosed, as well as the type of mesothelioma and your response to treatment.
But don’t stop there. If you are diagnosed with MPM or another form of mesothelioma and you suspect it was caused by asbestos exposure in the workplace or through the use of products such as Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder, call the attorneys at The Pintas & Mullins Law Firm today. The attorneys there can discuss your situation and whether you have a case. As always, consultations are free and you pay nothing unless we win. Call 800-969-1333 today.
